Why Kids Protection Planning is So Important

POSTED ON: December 1, 2015

This news story (from Halloween 2015) is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. A couple was killed in a tragic accident on Halloween night, leaving their minor children home alone and unaware. Luckily, a compassionate state trooper stepped in and eased the children through the holiday. The children were not made aware of their parents’ passing until the next day.

Considering what would happen to your minor children if something ever happened to you is never a pleasant thought, but it is one that is necessary. Life-altering situations can happen to anyone, at any time, and when they do, bereaved children whose short- and long-term custody is not already planned for can be taken into the custody of protective services while family members squabble in court over who will get custody.
